McCall Glacier

Another pure engineering solution, this one rooted in geological time and the laws of physics rather than human intent or need. Form follows function again, only this time the function is a blind one, and the form is beautiful not only in its majesty but in its destructive power.

The contrast between the man-made world and the natural one is at is clearest in deep Alaska, confronted with these ancient mountains and valleys, these markers of processes that continue regardless of us, this endless open space. The glacier is one enormous, fantastic machine operating on a scale beyond anything else in this gallery.
