Warehouses

Collection from a prop house and the Vitra furniture factory.

Prop House
As a race we unite in a love of the imaginary – movies, television, the latest in a long line of communal make-believe stretching back to the earliest fireside storytelling. An entire industry exists around the craft of storytelling, supplying it with lighting, people, locations, props. My prop-house images are portraits of those props at rest, with all artifice and styling removed. Without their context, they become surreal. And we glimpse a world normally unseen.

Vitra furniture factory
Like the props in the prop house, the fragments of furniture, incomplete and removed from their ultimate context, become both surreal and newly beautiful objects. Form follows function here again, and once again the byproduct of cold engineering is an unintended beauty. Not only aesthetic beauty, but the beauty of organization and precision taken for granted by manufacturers and invisible to end users.
